Optimistic: Staying Positive

We’ve officially survived yet another “End of the world” scenario. And, of course, yet another one has surfaced. It makes me wonder why there is such an obsession with the world ending? Why do we seem to dwell on the negatives rather than the positives? If we were told two things, one being the world is going to end on so-and-so day, the other being something positive such as “they’re this close to finding the cure for…” so many seem to automatically head for the hills and stock up on doomsday items. We panic.

It’s time we make a change. It’s time we enjoy our day to day activities. No more focusing on the negatives. No more worrying.

Every day I want to:

  • Enjoy the weather, even if it’s storming outside.
  • Laugh with my friends, even if it’s because I’m clumsy.
  • Savor the meals I consume, even if something doesn’t turn out the way I’d like.
  • Relax while driving, even if I’m stuck in traffic.
  • Focus on my work and the benefits of finishing, even if things are stressful.
  • Give unconditional love to my family, friends, and pets, even if they’ve done something to anger me.
  • Forgive those who have wronged me, even if they’ve not forgiven themselves yet.
  • Embrace everyday like it’s a prize and smile because I’m alive.

I’ve made the decision to focus on the positives in life. What about you?

But how can we stay positive when things are rough and times are hard?

By overlooking the negative, by choosing to focus on the good things. We’ve all heard the saying: “When life gives you lemons, make lemonade.” The same can be said in our everyday lives.

When you’re planning a trip to the beach, but it suddenly storms, you can do one of two things:

  1. Dwell on the fact that it’s storming, cursing, and saying your day is ruined, or
  2. Dance in the rain.
