Last week I headed to Ohio. Before going, I needed to pack, of course. I made the decision to let my new lifestyle carry over to Ohio, by limiting what I took with me. You can see everything in the video below.
The video is shaky so you can treat this one as more of a podcast. I’m still working on the camera situation and am still using my iphone and a small digital camera for these videos.
My end result shifted just a tad bit from the video, but just for a recap, what I decided to bring along was:
- 3 pairs of jeans
- 3 shirts
- 1 pair of pajama bottoms
- 1 pair of shoes
- 1 jacket
- 1 scarf
- 3 pairs of socks
- 3 spare undergarments
- Nook + cord
- Iphone + cord
- Headphones
- 1 bathroom bag (which held my toothpaste, toothbrush, deodorant, and some feminine products)
- My purse (I opted for a small black one instead of the one in the video since I decided not to bring my laptop. This held my wallet, keys, makeup bag, and checkbook)
- Book bag
I decided to leave my laptop behind as the trip was only a weeklong. I knew others would have computers where I was going, so if I really needed something I could easily jump on. Plus, having my Nook also helped. During my trip to New Zealand the amount I brought was just about equal to what is listed above, with a few small differences: Laptop, mouse, one extra pair of shoes, an umbrella, a neck pillow, a small blanket, and a camera. What I took to New Zealand is plenty to last for a month to even a year for me (with many loads of laundry in between).
While in Ohio I purchased a new shirt and two new pairs of jeans, and wound up tossing two pairs of jeans and one shirt to accommodate the new luggage. I was determined not to leave with more than I brought.
Then Sandy decided to become a Superstorm and hit the North (for those still battling the challenges, we hope everything improves soon! We’re doing what we can here to help out!). By the end of the trip, I was very glad to have packed so minimally, you just never know what could happen! Flights were canceled for two days, and my flight was one of the first to be able to leave the city. Needless to say, the plane was packed to the max, and many wound up having to check their baggage due to zero overhead space. As for me – I was able to neatly fit both my bag and purse under the seat in front of me. A huge relief for me and no worries about baggage being misplaced or lost during transition.
