8 Tips To Stop Procrastinating

Do you often find yourself pushing off a task for hours/days at a time? Yeah, we’ve been there once or twice as well. Procrastination definitely takes hold of even the best of us at times. But when you need to get something done, finding that motivation is important. For example, if you’re opening your own business you’re only hurting yourself by procrastinating on a task that could benefit your company in the long run. The same can be said for your minimalist lifestyle. If you want to employ a minimalist lifestyle you have to take the actions necessary to do so. You can utilize these tips to help undo the grip procrastination has on you.

  1. Make it fun. Yes, even as adults we respond better to fun than to work. Set milestones and try to outdo yourself. Place a reward at the end. Put music on and dance around while you complete your tasks. Just make it fun and interesting and you’ll enjoy doing it!
  2. Small steps. If the reason you’re procrastinating is because the task at hand is ginormous, don’t psych yourself out by trying to tackle it all at once. Instead, break it up into manageable tasks, and do them just a little at a time. No one said you have to do it in one day either; spread the task at hand across a week’ or a month timespan to lessen the feel of being rushed.
  3. Recruit help. Help can come in the form of others or just online resources. For example, if you’re just not sure where to start on your minimalist journey, connect with us! We’ll be happy to help you out.
  4. Remind yourself why. Perhaps this one should be number 1, but one of the biggest reasons we procrastinate is because we forget why we’re doing it. What is the motivation behind completing your task? Remind yourself of this and you’ll get a nice motivation boost.
  5. Just start. I know, this is one of those “easier said than done” tasks. But the fact is if you sit down and just start doing whatever it is you need to get done, eventually you’ll begin to see progress.
  6. Take breaks. Just like our “Small steps” above, this one is just as important. When you’re tackling a task that is overwhelming, sometimes it’s necessary to step away and take a break and return when you’re feeling mentally ready to tackle the task again.
  7. Turn off the TV and PC. Put these out of sight. If you’re watching TV or playing on your computer, you’re just giving yourself a reason to get sidetracked, and thus encouraging the procrastination.
  8. Schedule times. If the reason you’re procrastinating is because you don’t have time, then schedule it in. Set 20 minutes aside once a day or week to work on your task. Treat it like a very important meeting – don’t skip it.
