I LOVE challenging myself – can you tell? I like to offer LOTS of challenges, for varying levels in your minimalist lifestyle journey. For this reason, I’m introducing a one week minimalist challenge today. This one is recommended for those who are further in their journey or who are ready for a huge overhaul…

Do you want a new challenge?

Well, I’ve got one for you! One question I have frequently received is: How can I successfully declutter in the shortest time frame? We all want the process to be quick and relatively painless, and so I did a little experimenting and figured out a new “mini” challenge. Full disclosure…

It’s definitely a hard one!

I always try these challenges out first before introducing them to you, and I have to admit this challenge was one of the hardest ones so far – but it packed some SERIOUS results.

If you are not ready to do a huge overhaul, this challenge is not for you.

If you are nervous or worried you may toss something you will later need, this challenge is not for you.

If you toss something and later realize you need it and then decide to blame me for introducing such a ridiculously hard challenge, this challenge is not for you.

As I said before – this will be a hard one, but the things you wind up decluttering are solely up to you. The rules, restrictions, guidelines, etc. that go along with the challenge are completely up to you as well. I’m only providing you with one simple suggestion…

Are you ready?

If you are ready to take the plunge and do a massive overhaul, then let’s begin.

Is there an item you want to keep, but aren’t sure about?  Set a week aside to decide.

We’re not going to be spending a ton of time on this challenge. If you want a lengthier challenge, head over to the Challenges page and try the 30 Day Challenge.

So how does this challenge work, you ask? For those items you’ve set aside, you have one week to find a use for them.

If after a week you do not use it, toss it.

It’s that simple. On day one, go through your home and pinpoint the items you want to keep but rarely or infrequently use. What is considered to be used “rarely or infrequently” is up to you. The timeframe I set for myself included any items that had not been used in the last 30 days.

Over the span of one week (seven days – we’ll include the weekend for this one), any item that you cannot find a use for – toss.

Do not focus on the amount of stuff you’ll be getting rid of – it will be a lot!

Seriously – you’ll be getting rid of a TON of things if you stick to the challenge for the next week.

When you’re done, share your experience with us.

That’s it! Just a week – so it’s short, sweet, and to the point. Join us on Facebook or Twitter, and let us know how you did! You may be shocked by how much you toss at the end of the week. I know I was.

Good luck!
