Minimalism At Its Best – How To Work From Home

We may earn money or products from the companies mentioned in this post.

You tend to view life different at 50 than you did at 20 but one thing has been a constant in my life has been my goal to find a way how to work from home.  I did it.  It wasn’t easy so if you are looking for easy, you should probably stop reading this post now.

When you are in your 30’s and raising kids while working, you feel a constant level of guilt that you are not available at all times to your kids.  In addition to that guilt, you are stressed beyond belief from trying to balance family, friends, work, volunteering hours, taking care of the house and yard and everything else that needs to be done on a day to day basis.  I had this wonderful vision of being able to work from home earning more than I was at the office while raising happy, healthy kids.  Don’t we all have this dream especially us mom’s?

It took me 20 years to be able to work from home at my own business in the wholesale toys industry.  But I had 20+ years experience in this industry so actually knew it inside and out.  My strengths are sales and marketing and we have products that sell because they are so unique.

Over the years, I had tried everything to be able to work from home including spending quite a bit of money in how to books, lists, courses – you name it and I probably bought it.  Some of the information I bought helped me tremendously.  Others? Big waste of money especially those lists of work from home jobs.  But the most important thing I’ve learned over the years, I learned on my own through experience.  If you don’t love what you do, you won’t do it.  It’s as simple as that.  If you don’t believe in the product or service you are offering, you won’t be successful.  You must believe 100% in what you are doing or the product you are selling or bottom line your commitment just won’t be there.

I worked hour after hour after hour building websites for everything under the sun.  That’s when I found out that I was a gifted writer and could describe my products in a way that made people want to buy them.  I built two websites in the wedding industry that I sold at nice profits that allowed me to jump in with both feet and work from home on our pool toy and beach stuff business.

Our travels have led us to 4 acres where I have 4 rescue horses, 5 rescue dogs and 1 cat that adopted us and decided to stay.  As a result, we were able to build a warehouse on our property that houses our inventory and that saves us anywhere from $3000 to $6000 per month in warehouse leasing depending on where your warehouse would be located as warehouse space is much more expensive in places like Chicago or Miami over Cleveland or Detroit.

Commute?  What commute?  I walk from my house to my office and the only traffic I have to watch for are my animals.  I save significantly on automobile expenses as I don’t have to drive to work along with food as we eat most of our meals at home which is not only less expensive – it’s significantly healthier for you and fitness is another one of my passions.

Recently my daughter opened my eyes to the minimalist lifestyle and it was love at first sight – or first reading – for me.  I have never been a fan of clutter and prefer clean space over spaces that are jam packed from top to bottom.  It seems that I had been heading toward the minimalist path for some time but didn’t realize it.   Working from home is just one way I have been able to cut back on S T U F F that I didn’t need but it has also afforded me with a means to support my charities which are focused on rescuing animals and feeding the world’s children.

As I move further and further into the minimalist lifestyle I find I am extremely grateful that my business has allowed me to be in a position where I could walk away from the corporate world.  Now my goal is to assist others in finding the type of business where they can work from home and LOVE what they do along with expanding work with my charities.  If this is the direction you want to move in be sure to bookmark us.  Most importantly remember if you don’t LOVE it – you won’t do it.
