Why Choose A Minimalist Holiday?

Every year millions of dollars are spent to accumulate gifts, and every year millions of people find themselves owing more than they can afford. What’s worse, these gifts don’t bring happiness, and many of these gifts will go unused or be recycled or re-gifted. This year we’re breaking the mold by opting for a minimalist holiday. Your loved ones can have a memorable evening, without you spending a hundred+ dollars on a gift.

This year, we’ll be giving in abundance. We’ll be giving our attention, time, and love.

Ideas To Make Your Holiday Memorable

Instead of spending hundreds of dollars on a gift, here are some things you can do to make this holiday a happy and memorable one.

  1. Give your attention. Throughout the year what is one thing you hear often? Like many others, you may hear questions or requests for your attention. This year, give your attention generously, without being asked. Spend an evening with your loved one, without distractions. Cook together, dance together, sing together, or laugh together. Whatever you choose to do, choose to do it together.
  2. Give your love. Hugs count as one of the greatest gifts someone can receive. A long hug has been shown to stimulate the senses, and cause smiles. A hug can comfort, support, or provide warmth to other. Best of all, it’s a gift you can provide over and over again, and one they can share with others.
  3. Give your time. Spend your holiday giving your time and love to those who may not receive it elsewhere. Spend the day giving back to the community. Many shelters are always looking for assistance and volunteers. Why not share your time and love with those in need. Recruit some friends and family members, and make it an event shared with one another.
  4. Give all three. There’s no reason you have to limit your gift to only one of the above items. Provide your loved ones with all three, and it will certainly be a memorable holiday.

If you feel the need and desire to give them something, try a coupon book. Each coupon can be redeemed at any time, and coupons can be anything from “Good for one free hug” to “Good for one full afternoon with no distractions.”
